NYC TV; ANCHORS AND ANECDOTES
Seldom do we get a candid look at the the local TV newspeople we invite into our lives and living rooms almost daily. Jerryâs book is an accurate window on a world not seen by most rank and file viewers. Heâs done his homework. Heâs interviewed many past and present New York newspeople and their colleagues who keep us informed, reassured and sometimes entertained. It is refreshing to learn about their off-camera lives, backgrounds and experiences. Working in network news in New York City for nearly a half century, I have been an avid consumer of local as well as national and international news and have known or been acquainted with many of the anchors and reporters about whom Jerry has written. His profiles, details of newsroom dynamics and antics, as well as the process of gathering and reporting are spot-on. The book touches on the evolution of local broadcast news, with emphasis on the Eyewitness News format, some issues facing journalism today, and what its future might hold. Even readers whoâve never seen a New York City TV newscast or are unfamiliar with this cast of characters will find Jerryâs book compelling, amusing and interestingâ¦certainly relatable to viewers in any television market. Jerry is an excellent storyteller who has a solid grasp of news, newspeople, news personalities, the history of the news business and its impact on the lives of those who tune in. It has been said that the best journalism education is simply watching and overhearing other journalists do their jobs. The book is one such unique windowâ¦allowing a âfly on the wallâ glimpse.

Fun throwback to a bygone era in TV news in NYC market
For those of us who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s in NYC, this was a fun look back at a time of some of our favorite newscasters. The author clearly had access to lots of key players and gained insightful interviews, which enriched the story-telling. I wish the chapters were a bit more cohesively organized as it felt like they either skipped around or repeated on themselves. That said, it was a fun stroll down memory lane.

Excellent peak behind the scenes
A great read of behind-the-scenes backstories. My only complaint is the type font is way too small, middle-age eyes will benefit from a magnifying glass.

Disappointing
Poorly written, and it contains no revelations. Don’t buy it. Go to your local library if you want to read it.

A very nice read
This is written so well that even if you had not grown up watching local television from New York, youâd be introduced to the people well enough to feel like you had.
