From Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme, the creative masterminds behind The West Wing and Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, comes Sports Night, an innovative half-hour program about the team of smart people responsible for putting on a nightly live sports news show. They arre funny, disciplined, capable and fast-thinking, a group of consummate professionals, except when it comes to their personal lives.

Combining the storytelling talents of Sorkin and Schlamme and unforgettable performances by Josh Charles (In Treatment), Robert Guillaume (Benson), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Sabrina Lloyd (Sliders) and Joshua Malina (The West Wing), the first season of Sports Night defined a new style and raised the bar for all television programs to follow.

    My Favorite TV Family
This is a show to bring back. Canceled before the long tail.

    Fantastic writing
Can’t believe I never saw this – but fan of his writing. This one did not disappoint.

    I’ve lost count of rewatches
I’m still sad this show ended. Love it. The humor holds up. So does everything else.

    Young Sorkin
Here’s Aaron Sorkin’s early stab at TV. He crushed it with Studio 60 (the critics are idiots), the West Wing and the Newsroom. This show is a fun little appetizer for all that. If you watch this and hate it, let me know and I’ll personally come to your house and explain it to you in small words until you see it’s true greatness.

    Cut too soon
This hidden gem was launched before its time on a network that didn’t love taking risks and sandwiched between 3 other “traditional” sitcoms. It never had a chance. The laugh track, mandated by ABC at the time, is definitely cringe-worthy, but it’s easy to look past that to the stunning chemistry between the cast, the acting, and the writing. Definitely still one of my all-time favorite shows to watch, and it’s frightening how much I still have memorized. I love being able to watch everything without having to change discs, and my only complaint is that it goes by too soon. It debuted before Aaron Sorkin’s other show, The West Wing, but it was just as good, just not as long or as watched.

    Another excellent and under-appreciated show
I managed to miss watching this show when it came out 14 years ago (no DVR back then), but I’m a huge fan of Sorkin, so I’m finally taking the time to enjoy this. The only annoying part is the laugh track (which is the reason I took off one star) – but this was several years before Arrested Development, and laugh tracks were still an integral part of comedies, so it has to be endured. Otherwise, it’s as good as expected. And how could it be otherwise with such a fantastic cast! With some of the typical Sorkin monologues & dialogues about issues, it’s much more than a mindless sit-com or even just a show about sports. Sort of “The Newsroom Lite” in some respects.

    Great characters and heart
One of my favorite shows of all time. Didn’t get the viewers it deserved. Aaron Sorkin seldom disappoints
