    Passed expectations
I was pleasantly surprised with this paint set. It is a very good bargain for the price. First off, it comes in a very nice colorful tin that closes securely. It came with 3 brushes and 3 water brushes. The brushes were in a separate box inside the main box, so that was nice. It also has a small sponge for wiping your brush or wetting your paper. The paints themselves performed much better than I expected. I put them up against another paint set that is the same price, and which so many people on You Tube were giving high marks to. These paints performed much better besides having many more colors. Normally when you buy a palette with this many colors, the price is sky high, or if the price is low, so is the quality. These outperformed on all the tests I did against the other set. I tested transparency, wet on wet, wet on dry, ability to lift, etc. The colors remained true after drying and there was no chalkiness on the colors I tested. They are creamy and wet easily. You don’t need a lot of water to get a rich deep color. I gave both sets an even spritz of water before testing, and these remained wet a long time after the other set dried, which I liked. I don’t use the neon or metallic paints much but these outperformed the other set too. There is a swatch sheet that had the colors listed in the order that they are in the pan. YAY! It’s so irritating to me to get paints with a swatch card that lists the paint colors but they aren’t in order, and you have to just make your best guess as to what the color is. Not a problem here. It is a good idea to swatch the paints though because they will look a lot different in the pan than they do on paper when wet. For instance, the yellow ochre looks like a weird brown in the pan, but when you use it, it’s a nice earthy yellow. The second color is named ‘yellow grey’, but is brown to yellowish brown depending on how much water you use. Another odd name was ‘Brilliant green purple’ but is a nice purple. I didn’t see any green in it. (maybe it’s just me) Another color is called ‘Byzantine’ and is a pretty purple leaning a bit toward red.The cons: There is no place to mix the paint, so you’ll need a mixing palette. Since there is paint on both sides, you have to wait for the paint to dry if you want to keep the swatch sheet in the tin. It does have a plastic divider so you can close it up with wet paint without the swatch card. There is no light fastness rating so I wouldn’t use these for paintings you want to sell or even to hang on the wall for long periods of time, but you could test that out for yourself. The paints are in one molded plastic piece, so you can’t take out the colors you want and replace them with colors you use more. Although I suppose it would be possible to pry the little paint block out if you want.I don’t like using water brushes, so these were unnecessary for me, but others might really like them. Remember that since these are from another country, unscrewing them to fill them is not lefty Lucy, righty tighty. It’s the opposite, so don’t throw them out thinking you can’t open them. All in all, this is a very good set for beginners and intermediate or hobby artists. They wouldn’t perform well against my Daniel Smith paints, but the Daniel Smith paints also cost the same for 2 tubes as this entire set. .I tested them on a good quality wood pulp paper, so your experiences will be different on cheaper paper or on 100% cotton paper. I hear from artists all the time that the most important thing in watercolor is not the paints, but the paper. But I’m too cheap to use my expensive cotton paper for testing. lol

    Decent, non-professional grade watercolors
These are probably considered student grade watercolors, at best. I normally use Daniel Smith Tube paints and mix my own palettes and colors, but wanted something with lots of variety for travel, and something I wouldn’t be too sad about if I lost it (read: low cost). I also wanted to try the watercolor pen brushes. First thing I did was swatch all of the colors. It was very nice that a swatch card with the color names was included. I used the watercolor pen brush, and I think it will be nice for “on the go” painting. I have a trip coming up and I’m taking a watercolor journal just to play during down time on my trip (if there is any LOL). The water lasted pretty long and they are easy to refill. Note: They screw open and shut opposite of the way you normally would. The brush tips are flat, not pointed, so that’s a minus. I prefer a pointy tip brush. But, the colors were nice and vibrant, didn’t seem grainy, and didn’t “pool” and “Bloom” around the edges like I expected, so that’s a plus. I don’t think I’ll use these for my more elaborate paintings I do at home, but they will work for travel, a day at the park or just those times I want to play without mixing a lot of different colors myself. And, the metallics are a nice touch. The pans of color are small, almost like a half pan, but hey, it’s watercolor, so it’s really about using lots of water with a little pigment, so I think they’ll last a while. It also comes with a little plastic mixing tray that I may or may not use. It’s pretty thin, so I don’t expect it to last terribly long. And it came with three regular brushes too, which I haven’t tried yet, but they feel soft like a watercolor brush should.

    Really Nice Set
I think the only time I’ve used anything than the basic mass produced watercolor sets designed for children is the time my uncle bought me one of those giant all in one art kits as a kid. The water colors were super dry and chalk like. I really like this set because it is full of different colors and each is vibrant. Instead of running away from water and creating colored smears these come to life in the water creating deep vibrant colors. These are easy to mix and the paint brushes and pens that come with are decent quality as well. They aren’t top of the line but nicer quality cheap brushes and pens. It comes with a card that gives the color names and lets you fill in the hues so that you can see the colors. Not all the colors look the same in their dried form as they do on paper so it’s a particularly helpful sheet. While the actual paint tins are small they hold a good amount of paint and the little bit will go a long ways. A great set for someone starting out or a kid who is serious enough for something a bit more adult.

    Nice quality for the price
I am very much a BEGINNER so please note that is the view point I’m coming from with this review. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the metal tin was that house the paints. There is even a clasp to secure the tin. The first thing I did was swatch all the paints. I love that the kit came with a swatch card that named all the colors and was in the order of the paints in the tin. The set came with 6 brushes, 3 regular brushes and 3 that hold water. I only used one of the regular brushes to create the swatches so I cannot speak to the water pens. I don’t have any other paint brands to compare to, but I was very happy with the quality of the paints and the breadth of color selection. I’m eager to jump in to my first project.
