I never have and never will.
Which is why I’ve brushed off this specific player that has continued to try to get my attention. The thing with this specific player is that he can’t stand my brother. His teammate. And I can’t stand him.
Colton Wheeler is persistent, and even if it’s just using me to get under my brother’s skin, he’s determined to wear me down. The chemistry between us is tangible, no matter how much I want to deny it.
But the more I learn about him, the more I feel there may be a pull that is more than just physical. I want to continue to hate him, but it’s getting harder to remember the reasons I should.

Colton Wheeler ð¥µð¥µ
Words are 100% failing me on this one and I’m not entirely sure I will recover from the emotional roller coaster that was Colton. I have loved this series from the beginning- I knew it was something special when I couldn’t put down The Hat Trick- the prose, the attention to detail, the chemistry between all of the characters 100% sold me on Madi Danielle until the end of time. That only when up with Cross Checked and Power Play. All of that change with The Break Out- this story blew me out of the water in the best way possible! I literally felt like I was living in Brynn and Colton’s pain in regards to their losses of what was and what could have been on top of the loneliness that Brynn constantly felt. Throw in the instant, natural chemistry that both of these two characters had towards one another and I think I may be ruined for all future men- if they don’t act or talk like Colton Wheeler, I don’t think I want them! My heart literally broke for Brynn. You get the sense that there is something deeper to the pain of the Collee family in The Hat Trick but the depths of the pain are never more clear than with Brynn, especially when it comes to family. Having not had the best one growing up, it is only natural for her to yearn for one in her adult life and extremely difficult for her to come to terms with the fact that the family she dreamed of, the one that included her siblings may not be entirely possible with siblings who are carving out their own family dreams or trying to recover from their own pain in their upbringing. It was really hard at times to see her struggle with all of those feelings and despite all of that, I think it made her connection with Colton that much stronger. I loved Colton’s character arc. He certainly starts off as the bad boy who wants nothing to do with the Dragons after being traded to them and is not willing to make any effort into being a team with them. Throw in the fact that Brynn is right at his finger tips and the sister of his captain, he is more than willing to keep up the bad boy persona, especially if it means getting the one girl who rebuffed his previous advances to agree to one night with him. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t expecting to become addicted to annoying her which leads to so many more complicated emotions that he is not ready nor willing to admit. Throw in his dirty mouth and boy oh boy, how could Brynn not fall for him??? I loved watching the struggle within himself as he discovers that maybe his feelings for Brynn are much deeper than the physical ones they have been exploring. I really enjoyed the heart to heart that both of them had since it certainly gave each other a deeper understanding of their emotions and common ground to step on. I also really loved seeing the complete 360 near the end towards when Brynn needs space from him- you would think that he wasn’t capable of giving what he does but I think that makes the ending that much sweeter- especially when all of the secrets are spilled. I was not anticipating their secret to come out as smoothly (or close to) as it did, but I loved it! I’m not sure how I am ever going to get over this book hangover that is The Break Out. The prose, the spice, the chemistry and overall character development easily pushed this book into my overall #1 for 2024 and I will forever be sitting on baited breath to see if there will be more from the Dragons because I never want this series to end!

All the spice
Admittedly I struggled a bit with this in the beginning. Colton had such a bad attitude and was a jerk to everyone, including our female lead, Brynn. I kept thinking, no way can Madi turn this around and make me like him. But somehow, she did!Brynn is the youngest of a troubled family and wants nothing more than a relationship with her siblings. The only one who reciprocates that is her oldest brother, who is the teammate of recently traded Colton (and main character of book 1).Colton is kind of a lone wolf, mainly because he’s a jerk. But he sets his eyes on Brynn, first because she denies him and she’s off limits but pretty quickly he develops real feelings. The spice was smoking! Colton is dominant by nature which compliments Brynn’s submissive side. I really enjoyed their snarky banter. They both gave as good as they got. And when that carried over to the bedroom, Brynn being bratty, Colton being a bully, it was h.o.t! I do wish we’d experienced a little more to their relationship – I didn’t really feel like deep feelings (love) was developing. The Power Play was still my favorite of the series but this one was great too!

A spicy read with heart and character growth
HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO MADI DANIELLE AND THE BREAK OUT the newest release in the Denver Dragons series.I was *SO HONORED* to be an ARC reader for this book and I have read it twice. Once just to squeal and squee and enjoy once to make sure I did it justice when I wrote what I wanted to say about it.Today when you get to meet Colton and Brynn there are a few things you should know.He really is a grade-A jackhole. When Brynn says “It really is unfair that the universe decides to give a man that face and body, but his sâây personality” You will feel it with your whole chest along with her and yet … you’re still going to want him to ride you like he rides the mechanical bull.Brynn is everything you expect her to be from getting pieces parts of her from Brents POV in The Hat Trick and so much more. You will want to protect her from being hurt by a f-boi but also know she is capable of doing that all her own – thank you very much.So what happens when the two of them meet head on? He sees her as a sexy challenge and she sees him as an absolute NO THANK YOU until they see the truth hidden under their shared traumas. There is so much growth in both of them – and I LOOOOOVE character growth. I stan a man who can admit he needs to change.I absolutely loved the journey of these two figuring out who they are together and as people without the labels people put on them. Just two people together. Not Brents sister and his teammate. Not Chandlers friend. Not the hockey player. Just Brynn and Colton. The sneaking around, the dirty talking, the domination, the degradation … make sure you can handle what they’re bringing because it’s not for everyone but if this is your flavor of spice it’s a four chili pepper spice and WHOOOO.So run, don’t walk and get you a copy of this book… and if you haven’t been reading the Denver Dragons series? Get to reading! Catch up! Madi and her friends have been waiting for you!

If I could give it more stars, I would! Back with another splendid blend of kickass playlist, great story progression (including some catch ups with your favourite characters from her other books), and a perfect amount of spice – The Break Out does not disappoint. Ooooh AND it has a playlist – which is always a win 🙂

I love the Denver Dragons seriesThis is a proper enemies to lovers’ story. The banter is brilliant between Brynn and Wheeler is off the charts.Wheeler is an obnoxious Hockley player who wants what he can’t have that being Brynn the team captains sister. They seek comfort in each other, and both overcome their past traumas.I enjoy the way the characters interconnect between each book, and you get insight into their life’s.
