As with all of Magpie’s music, this one combines original folk lyrics and tuns with renderings of old folk and spirituals with great voices and instrumentals. Lyrics that make you not just think but feel.

Magpie-Give Light!
I first heard Greg and Terry in April of this year, 2000, during a visit to a Leesburg, VA street festival. While walking past the town square I was drawn to the delicious sound of their lilting vocals, unbelievable harmony, their thoughtful lyrics and pure 70ish-troubadour style. I stopped dead in my tracks and stayed to listen to a sound I thought had disappeared from music! Their music puts you in mind of Peter, Paul and Mary, Judy Collins, and also, my favorite, Gordon Lightfoot. Political and thought-provoking, it is often dream-like. My favorite on this album is the song I stopped for, Safe Harbor, which John sings to his wife. Cry Carolina, Roll on Cuyahoga, and Give Light, Water, Fire & Smoke are all excellent too. It was the happiest surprise of my trip, the most unexpected, and it made me wonder why I have not heard of them before now!
