Moses and Troy Horne here. Your mental toughness guides! If you are reading this you probably have a young athlete who struggles with in-game stress and maybe even sports performance anxiety. Most of the books that we read were not a good fit for young athletes because they were either written for adults or not written for youth athletes in COMPETITIVE sports. There is a difference.

Since there wasn’t anything out there for elite athletes I did what every youth sports parent does when they want to help their kid. I started my own team! JUUUUST KIDDING! (I probably should have, but I didn’t believe that I would be able to do it well. I lacked mental confidence myself I guess. We talk about that in the parent’s version of this book too.)

We took the long journey of ups and downs. We struggled to help our young athlete find his mental toughness. IT WAS ROUGH! Luckily along the way, we found the winning formula thanks to being able to talk with sports icons personally.

    Great Book
    Great book for both children and parents. I highly recommend this book if your child needs a boost in confidence. I can’t say enough about the weekly emails, they provide a diverse perspective on dealing with the twist and turns of trying to help your child be successful with whatever they are trying to achieve in life.

    My daughter has shown immediate results
    My daughter plays travel softball and I am constantly working on her mental game. I know the coaches and instructors I take her too will work on all the physical components but mental toughness is just as if not more important and that is why I wanted to get this book. Immediately I saw results. She was more confident and doesn’t let little things that go wrong snowball. It is a wonderful book and I recommend to anyone trying to help their young athlete with the mental side of sports.

    I borrowed and listened to the parent’s guide from my library. Then I decided to buy my own copy of the parent’s guide and the copy for kid’s. So many important lessons. I plan on rereading and marking up my copy and then working with my son.

    Great Book!!!
    I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book with my children who are all competitive athletes (football, jiu-jitsu, volleyball, track & field). This book provoked deeper conversations and gave my children and I action steps on how to pursue excellence. This is a book that we’ll be re-reading multiple times. I’m thankful to Troy and his son Moses Horne for putting together such a great book! As a former competitive track and field athlete, I wish I would’ve had this book when I was younger, but I’m glad that I can now use this book to help my own children and the ones that I coach.

    Basketball Team Summer Book Club Top Pick!
    If you are an athlete you know you’d rather be playing your sport than reading. But I had my son read this book to see if we should read it for his basketball team’s book club. And it was an instant winner, even beating out Kobe’s Mamba Mentality. Below is a summary of strengths and a recommendation from my 5th grader.From the introduction, this book captures the young reader’s attention and it just continues to flow. The use of bold lettering, bullet points, and spacing makes this an easier read to stick with than a lot of other books. You can pause in between chapters and feel confident picking the book back up. I love the chapter summaries, quotes, and stories about successful athletes and their families. The authors clearly paint the picture that mental toughness is as, if not more important, than athletic ability.If this book is ever revised, consider ending the chapter with the exercise on it’s own page (after the summary and book recommendation) or end the book with all exercises combined. That way it’s easier to find and repeat each exercise daily in between readings. –

    My parents heard about this book from a friend, so they got it for me. The drills are simple, make sense and are easy to make a habit of. They make a big difference over time and I’m definitely getting ready for the next level. They speak from experience and studies which demonstrates the exercises very well!     This book Is a great read for teens who are balancing their emotions while taking in constructive criticism. Book offers many tips on positive thinking while playing and during off time. It makes reference to famous athletes that youth connect to, offers practical guide to setting goals, meditation, and so much more. It’s a book that youth can refer to over and over again.

    This is a great little book. I purchased it for my partner who, despite not falling under the category of “young athlete” (well, she’s 30, she’d argue THAT toss with me), she’s not as into reading sports psychology tomes as I am, and I was looking for something a little simpler that I could distill for her.It absolutely did not disappoint. As someone who has spent over 20 years reading all manner of sports psychology books, there wasn’t anything new here that I had not read elsewhere, but I’m not the target audience. Young athletes won’t have spent the time I have reading as widely as I have. So this should be new to them.Although there’s nothing I’ve not read here before, this is the first time I’ve found all of these tips in one single place. It’s a one stop shop.I really love this book for it’s simplicity but also breadth. Yeah, you could want to read deeper into some aspects, but you don’t *need* to to get the full benefit of these exercises (and I know from experience that they do work. But you’ve got to do them every day, for years, to get the full benefit of them. They’re not a magic wand).I’ve already purchased the follow up and the parent’s guide as well.I’ve seen in some reviews complaints about grammatical errors, but I found about two in total. So I assume these have been editted out in future editions.It is certainly not a jarring read and my praise is not in spite of the presentation of the text. So don’t let those reviews put you off.
