Excellent set for watercolor hobbyists
I got this set with modest expectations given it’s a budget priced set with a *lot* of colors. In the past, I’ve used a few basic sets with a handful of colors, but I’ve wanted something with more variety. I’ve *really* wanted to try some metallic colors as well. This set is perfect for someone wanting to dabble with watercolor with a wide range of colors without breaking the bank.I like the latching metal container for the paints. It does NOT hold the brushes or anything other than the paints themselves, so if you plan to use the kit on the go, keep the box. There is a separate (cardboard) box just for the brushes (and sponge & pencil). The whole box with both the paints and the brush box is still really compact and portable. The paints themselves seem to work well. I’m just a hobbyist, so I can’t speak to how well these compare to professional paints. I can say these seem at least as good as the “student grade” paints I’ve purchased from some of the bigger name brands.I really appreciate the two swatch cards that are included in the box – one for the top 50 paints and one for the bottom 50. Some of the paints look quite different when wet, so you’ll definitely want to swatch out all of the colors so you’ll know exactly what you get when the paint dries on your paper. The only two negatives I really have are related to the brushes. I had a few bristles come loose form one of the brushes while painting. It wasn’t falling apart, but I think a couple of loose to start with. As soon as I started using it, they came off on the paper. After that, I didn’t have any other issues. The second brush issue is there isn’t a larger flat brush. It looks like the 50 color kit has one, but the 100 color kit does not. If you’re doing a lot of very precise detail work, you’ll like the brush selection. If you’re trying to quickly lay in a lot of color for say a sky, then you’ll find the brushes less ideal. That said, the water brushes have longer bristles, so you have some options for covering larger areas, but I’d probably swap one of the detail brushes for a flat brush personally.I definitely feel like the quality is much better than I expected given the price. You might want to get another brush or two depending on what you plan to paint, but the paints themselves are quite a good value for the price. I definitely think this would make a great gift for someone wanting to start with watercolor or a kid moving up from the typical kid’s brands.

Great for kids or serious “Art-teeests”(That’s a fancy way to pronounce artists w/a French accent).
This is such an awesome little watercolor set. Easy to take with you so you’re prepared anywhere when the artistic muse hits. 🙂 The paint come in their own little compact tin case which is about the size of a pencil case. The case has a very pretty blue floral pattern. I’m impressed with the quality of the paint and of the rest of the set. It is so much fun and so relaxing to use these for crafts to unwind or let your creative ideas flow, and my kids absolutely love painting with these too!The set also comes with 6 nylon paintbrushes with different size tips, an art sponge, two swatch sheets to test the paint and keep to reference for a sample of the colors, a plastic mixing sheet that fits into the watercolor tin and 3 water brush pens. The water brush pens allow you to fill them with water and then as the water wets the brush head it lets you “write: with paint. I wasn’t sure if they’d work well but they actually have a cool effect. It has 100 different colors. Each color is pretty small, slightly bigger than a chiclet gum size. You don’t need much paint with watercolors generally though, and a little of these paints go a long way. One dip of your brush in these paints gives a lot of coverage. You can easily add more or less water to make the paint transparent to very opaque. If you let the paint dry and add another coat it becomes even more solid and bold. I like that I have options and can build the paint up because it gives you a lot of versatility. I was so excited to see that this has not only the usual neutrals and jewel tones but it even has NEON colors (which are really bright after they dry!) and metallic colors, too, even some metallic shades that are transparent until the light hits them just right, which are beautiful to use to highlight paintings. The metallic shades are so pretty that they reminded me of the shiny feathers at on a ruby hummingbirds throat, which inspired me to paint some hummingbirds and flowers. This would make a thoughtful gift for a budding artist too. It has small parts and can be messy so it’s probably not great for smaller kids but bigger kids would love this, and who knows, you might inspire a lifelong love of painting and art.Know before you buy or gift: You will probably need a thicker cardstock or watercolor paper to soak up the paint for best results. The paint bleeds a little bit too (which is the case with ALL watercolor paints, pretty sure this is supposed to happen and it lets you make really cool effects) so if you want lines that bleed less use less water to mix up the paint.

Watercolor set
I got the 100 color set that included 3 water brushes, a pencil, 6 paintbrushes, swatch cards and a sponge. These types of kits are all over Amazon. Look for the size (amount of colors) you want and then go for the best price. This 100 color set includes basic colors, pastels, neons, and metallics. Itâs packaged very nicely. The box is cute and inside is the watercolor tin and a box containing all the brushes and pencil. The sponge is really ridiculous. Itâs thin and small. It would make more sense if it were included in the tin itself, but in the 100 color set there is no room for it.These arenât professional paints, but that doesnât mean they arenât good and have value. The colors are very bright and pigmented. They are also very creamy and soft. They are not chalky or scratchy. They are quite opaque for the most part right out of the pan. You can water them down to get them more transparent. They are almost gouache like if you use them with just a little bit of water. The metallics give a nice sparkle and sheen. As with any watercolors, be sure to spray them with water or add a drop of water to each pan before starting to paint. Metallics especially need time to soak to be ready to use. This set is great for kids, beginners, those who love art supplies, and for those who love to have all the colors available without having to mix. With 100 colors, there is surely the color you want or need.Iâm pleased with the set and the paints.
